Englewood’s Event:

Celebrate Memorial Day at Englewood High School on Sunday, May 28. The high school is located at 3800 South Logan Street, Englewood.

The ceremony is free and open to the public. Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms and/or ribbons, and we honor all veterans not just those in Englewood.

The first year WWII veterans were honored and the second year Korean veterans were honored. This year there is a well-deserved tribute to all our Vietnam veterans. It is time to “set the record straight and say “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans”!

The Pre-Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. and features:

• The New York 79th Highlander bagpipe group
• The Douglas County Young Marines
• Sponsors tables in the lobby
• Pictures and brief biography of KIA veterans
• Veterans pavers near the monument stone

The Main program begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Fisher Auditorium and features:
• The Joe Peterson Orchestra and the Andrew Singers
• The Douglas County Young Marines with Commander Jeff Cooper
• Veteran speakers
• The ‘Missing Man Ceremony’ performed by Rolling Thunder

The Post ceremony starts at 4:00 p.m. outside and features:
• The Honor Bell Foundation
• A live bugler playing Taps
• A rifle salute
• A presentation of the American flag to a Gold Star Family

The monument at Englewood High School is a three-ton Colorado Rose Granite stone from our own Colorado quarry in Lions Colorado. The five bronze service seals: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard are on the face of the stone. Pavers with the names of veterans and those who honor them surround the stone.

Sponsored by: Boyd Sign Company and the Boyd family, Colonel Doug Hole EHS Class of 1959, The City of Englewood, Vietnam Veterans of America 1106, Rolling Thunder CO chapter 1, Englewood Historic Preservation Society, Kay Woodward Howard, Founder of the Englewood Veterans Monument. Denver’s Event:

Honoring our fallen heroes, the theme for the 18th annual ceremony is “For the Love of Home, Country, and Humanity” which is why they enlist and why they serve. On Saturday, May 27, at 10:00 am POF Hall, 1340 Sherman St., Denver (1/2 block south of the Capitol), the ceremony features, as always, the Reading of the Names with the Navy Bell and the Remembrance Wreath Laying for heroes who have died in the past wars. Veterans from those wars lay the memorial wreaths. But this year we are including much more music – the universal language – with memorable war era songs.

The Tribute is free and open to the public of all ages. This is the time to show your support to the many Gold Star families who attend, and observe Memorial Day as it was intended – a day to express our gratitude to those who gave their all for our Country.
