The Board of Larimer County Commissioners proclaimed the week of November 7 – 13 as Operation Green Light for Veterans who have earned our gratitude and support for their service to our nation. Operation Green Light is a national collaborative spearheaded by the National Association of Counties or NACo.

Larimer County Operation Green Light Awards
According to Larimer County Veteran Services Officer Lee Cooper (pictured holding document), Operation Green Light derives its name from the airborne soldiers on a mission waiting to jump out of a military aircraft. They would wait for the red light inside the aircraft to turn green, the signal it was time for them to go.
Larimer County supports these individuals through the Larimer County Veterans Service Office to ensure they have the resources they need as valued members of our community transitioning to civilian life. Nationally, about 200,000 service members transition to civilian communities each year. Still, between 44% and 72% of those service members can experience high levels of stress during their transition with mental health issues and possibly even suicide during their first transition year from military service.
“The people transitioning to civilian life every day — those are people you help every day and so we appreciate the services you provide all over the community to help people get back to that civilian life which is not necessarily easy, especially with some trauma that people might have experienced. Operation Green Light is a small way to remind us of those sacrifices,” said Larimer County Commissioner Kristin Stephens.
“Thank you for your good work in your team to provide services that require great navigation skills to make sure veterans are receiving support and benefits they have rightfully earned through their military service,” said Larimer County Commissioner John Kefalas.
