Almost two years since its last exhibit, the City of Greeley’s Tointon Gallery reopens its doors and invites the community to a First Friday Art reception celebrating the gallery’s inaugural exhibit of 2022, “A Vision of Community,” by local artist, Sieger Hartgers, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7 at 651 10th Ave. A gift from the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), the collection celebrates Greeley spaces and events that create the city’s unique spirit of community.

The January 7th reception includes light refreshments and an artist talk and kicks off the exhibit’s gallery run from Friday, January. 7th to Saturday, February 26. The Tointon Gallery is free and open to the public during normal Greeley Recreation Center business hours.
The collection features more than two dozen works by Hartgers, a former art and printmaking faculty member at UNC. The romantic style he uses in his art express a fondness for Greeley, depicting the city as a unique and welcoming place through colorful, photo-referenced paintings and prints.
The large-scale paintings feature colorful views of familiar Greeley streets and gatherings – such as the annual Arts Picnic, intimate block parties, and a summer night at downtown Greeley’s Friday Fest – creating an immersive experience and drawing the viewer into the paintings. The collections’ smaller drawings and etchings offer crafted tonal structures and intimate views of the familiar scenes.
The Tointon Gallery features up to 12 different exhibits annually. As the only city-run gallery in Greeley, the facility provides community members with opportunities to experience the visual arts; enjoyment and education from thought provoking discussion; and an enhanced quality of life as the result of its contributions to the city’s thriving arts community.
