Senior Living Options in Larimer County

When exploring your senior living options, you may have seen what is referred to as an “active adult community.” These are 55 or over “age-restricted” or “age-qualified” communities. These communities are designed with a retirement-friendly, low-maintenance life-style in mind. They can consist of single-family houses, multi-family patio homes, condominiums, or townhomes, with units owned by the resident. Often built near shopping, restaurants, parks, and attractions since residents are still eager to live active lifestyles into their retirement years.

Pros:
• Low or no-maintenance exteriors: After years of mowing, snowblowing, and raking, ditching exterior maintenance is very appealing!
• Opportunities to make friends with other retirees: In active adult communities, residents are all in similar places in life, so it is easy to find people with whom you have much in common and friendships can result.
• A quiet, mostly kid-free environment: While adult children and grandchildren are welcome to visit, the 55+ age requirement for residents means that active adult communities are usually quiet places to live.
• Amenities: An active adult community will provide many opportunities to exercise and socialize. Along with amenities likepools and fitness centers, residents often organize events, affinity clubs, volunteer groups, and other ways to stay active and involved.
Cons:
• Lack of age diversity: These communities usually require a minimum of one person in the residence be at least 55 years old, there is a lack of age diversity within the community, and not everyone perceives it to be appealing.
• No care services included: Assisted living or healthcare services of any kind are not provided as part of your monthly HOA fee. Is an active adult community right for you? A realtor with the SRES designation can help you sort through these factors when deciding on your next home.
