Gal From Kalamazoo!

Laura K. Stevens was born and grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Attended Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City has lived in Indiana, Illinois and in Minnesota for 25 years. Her dad affectionately refers to Laura as “His Gypsy.” In 2007 she became a Colorado resident. Laura is a world traveler. She studied French at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland and taught English there; as well.

Laura’s professional career has taken on several interesting and exciting characteristics. She spent 10 years as a Registered Nurse then moving on to a worker’s comp rehabilitation counselor, senior independent care manager and care giver. Her skills have taken her into sales and marketing endeavors and career counseling. Currently, Laura serves as a Care Transition Coach with SOCIA. This is a continuation of her desire to help others help each other. She is an active volunteer in The Alzheimer Association, The Geller Center and in the Unity Church of Fort Collins.

There are life enjoyments, too. Laura likes to spend time gardening, enjoys cultivating friendships spending time with family and finds great fun Salsa, Swing and Blues dancing. Hiking is on her list of activities she enjoys.

For years, Laura’s somewhat secret passion which over time has become very open is photography. Nature is a prime subject for her. She often looks for small points of interest in the big picture. Laura is always on the lookout for eye-catching scenes. She likes to capture uniqueness in her work. She believes her photography serves as expressions of herself and what she finds interesting. Few children escape the click of her camera shutter. The advancement she has made provides for her displaying numerous pieces of her work at the Unity Church of Fort Collins. She is quite proud and rightly so. She is hopeful admirers of her work make a purchase or two.

Laura is the mother of two grown sons and the proud grandmother of a six year old grandson. So, we now know a little more about the “Gal from Kalamazoo” and her Dad’s Gypsy.
