The Assistance League® of Greeley, and The Human Bean (Weld County locations), will partner for Hungry Kids Action Week, February 22-26, 2021. During that week, customers at the Human Bean Drive-Thru Coffee locations are asked to donate individually packaged healthy snacks and/or new or gently used books for kindergarten through 8th grade students.
Donations will also be accepted at the Assistance League’s Bargain Box Thrift Store at 1706 9th St in Greeley. Donations will be distributed to students at Title I schools is Weld County School District 6 to feed their tummies as well as their minds. Suggested snacks include individual packets of nuts, tuna, protein or granola bars, peanut butter snacks, cheese crackers or roasted chickpeas.
ACTION! Week is a program of the National Assistance League with chapters across the country creating their own projects. Assistance League of Greeley undertakes six other philanthropic programs. These include Single-Parent Scholarships for Aims and UNC students, Assault Survivor Kits® (given to Banner and UCHealth hospitals), Operation School Bell ® (school uniforms), Warm Up Weld (blankets and bedding), Color Me Weld (for children in area hospitals) and File of Life®, a medical document accessible to emergency responders. Primary funding for these programs comes from sales at the Bargain Box.
Founded in 1973, the Assistance League of Greeley is the local chapter of Assistance League, a national non-profit organization that celebrates the power of the volunteers to evoke positive change in the world. Members accept donations for sale at the Bargain Box and work in the store, all as volunteers. New members are always welcome.
