As the fall and winter months come on, you may have more time to work on genealogy, explore new websites and write up the stories of your ancestors that you have been ‘too busy’ to create. I want to remind you of the many opportunities available to you through ZOOM meetings throughout the U.S. Locally, the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies (www.cocouncil.org) posts a list of meetings held throughout the state. Then you can contact that society to get the ZOOM link and register for the meeting.
The Denver Public Library (www.denverlibrary.org), has remote access to Ancestry Library Edition with a DPL library card. You can sign up for one online. The Westminster Public Library is offering monthly genealogy meetings on the first Saturday of each month as well as remote access to Ancestry Library Edition from your home. Explore the offerings at https://www.cityofwestminster.us/Libraries/WPL@Home.
The Colorado Genealogical Society hosts the Beginning Genealogy Class on ZOOM on the second Saturday of every month from 10 am to noon as well as the WriteNOW genealogy writers group on the second Sunday of every month through May. You can register during the month at www.cogensoc.us by clicking on the “more” link for each meeting.
The WriteNOW group now includes about 50 people, many of who could not attend without the wonder of ZOOM. There are as many as five attendees from out of state and two from the Western Slope. We are all intent on preserving the research we have spent years accumulating by writing our family stories and sharing our family history.
Hopefully, when we look back on this period of time, we will be able to recount our accomplishments in education, research, and writing gained from our shared passion for genealogy.
