At the September 8th Larimer County Commissioners meeting, recognition was given to Myles Crane on his recent appointment by Governor Polis to the Colorado Commission on Aging (CCOA), representing northern Colorado and serving in a leadership role for the State. Myles has been a volunteer for many city and county public committees since retiring in 2011.
The Commission’s duties include studies regarding problems impacting older people; review existing programs and making recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly; assisting government and private agencies to coordinate local non-duplicative programs on behalf of older adults, and promoting and conducting educational programs on issues of aging.
CCOA holds monthly meetings to discuss legislative issues, programs, and planning. They also award the annual Centenarian Program certificates honoring older adults over 100 years from across the state at a luncheon each year and the annual Senior Legacy Award.
Myles Crane
Myles is part of a 17-member board on the commission from all over the state created by the State Legislature to serve as Colorado’s primary advisory body on all matters affecting older persons. The volunteer organization is appointed by the governor and approved by the state Senate to serve for four-year terms. There are two members appointed to each of the seven congressional districts, and members representing that district may not be from the same political party.
Myles is also a member of the Partnership for Age-Friendly Communities (PAFC) Health and Wellness priority group. Myles is Chair for the Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board and serves on the Larimer County Office on Aging Advisory Council (LCOA). Myles and his wife recently received the Community Impact Award given by Colorado State University’s Center for Public Deliberation.
At age 78, Myles looks forward to helping his older adult community in his CCOA district.
