Greeley Chorale Closes 49th Season on April 5

“If the classical period has a Hit Parade, this is it!” That’s how Greeley Chorale Music Director Dr. Galen Darrough sums up the Chorale’s final concert of the 49th season, “The Power & the Glory”. The concert is Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 917 10th Avenue in Downtown Greeley.

The centerpiece of this concert is Haydn’s Missa in angustiis, (mass in a time of fear), better known as the Lord Nelson Mass. “This work
was written over a six-week period in the summer of 1798, when the monarchies of Europe were absolutely terrorized by word of Bonaparte’s fleet escaping the British blockade,” explains Darrough.

“When Admiral Nelson cornered the French fleet near Alexandria and blew it to pieces during the Battle of the Nile, the rest of Europe
breathed a sigh of relief, and Haydn dedicated the mass to the Admiral.” Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass is performed with orchestra and guest soloists, in addition to the 100-voice Chorale.

Other composers featured in this concert are Bach, Beethoven, Brahms (the 3 B’s), Mendelssohn and Mozart. “The works we’re performing
by these ‘stars of the classical world’ are all pieces familiar to most audiences, and are all joyous expressions of the power and
glory of God, and life itself,” Darrough said.

“Although this is the end of our traditional season, the Greeley Chorale will be visible throughout the spring and summer”, explained
Chorale Administrator Heather Garwood. “We are performing at the Capitol in Denver on April 23, for the Northern Colorado Honor
Flight Sendoff on May 4, at the Arts Picnic in July and Chautauqua in August. So we hope to see you all summer long, as we launch
into our very special 50th Anniversary Season in the fall.”

“The Power & the Glory” is sponsored by the Good Samaritan Society/Greeley Communities. The 2013-2014 season is supported by The Greeley Tribune. Tickets are $15 for adults or $8 for students with student ID, and are available through the UCCC ticket office at 970-356-5000, 1-800-315-ARTS, or go online at Greeley Chorale Website and select “Concerts.”
