After almost 30 years of oral storytelling provided by seniors to children throughout Colorado classrooms, financial assistance is needed to continue this great program. Since its inception, Spellbinders® has been supported primarily by individual donors. As non-profit donations are trending downward nationwide, Spellbinders® is at a crossroads.
Spellbinders® is about children. Both students and teachers love having a Spellbinders Storyteller Volunteer in their classroom. Spellbinders Storytellers not only inspire creativity and imagination in their students but they help them in other areas measured in the annual teacher survey. These areas include: listening skills, expansion of world view, understanding story structure, vocabulary, recall/comprehension, reading skills, problem solving, writing performance and more (Survey available at www.spellbinders.org/2019-teacher-survey/).
However, we are facing a pivotal moment in the history of Spellbinders®. As we move into our 30th year of storytelling for children, we are challenged as never before to fund the services that oversee crucial aspects of the 14-Chapter network. We have recently experienced a severe downturn in in our ability to obtain funding through foundations and grants and face the closing of staff operations imminently.
We invite you to link arms with Spellbinders® at this critical time as we develop strategies to sustain our vital mission in the years to come.
Spellbinders® Storyteller Volunteers reached 371,068 children in 1,915 schools in just this past year, with almost 500 volunteers.
Please help Spellbinders® keep the magic alive.
