Boulder audiences can expect to hear something a little different when Venice Baroque Orchestra (VBO) performs in Macky Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m with internationally renowned recorder player Anna Fusek.
The Venice Baroque Orchestra is an ensemble devoted to performing traditional baroque era music using period instruments. It is committed to revitalizing 17th and 18th century pieces with audiences around the world.
“Our interest in playing this music on period instruments truly began with our curiosity to achieve the same sound and meaning that the 18th century musicians conveyed,” said VBO violist Alessandra Di Vincenzo.
Through the orchestra’s exploration, its members have found that playing baroque music on period instruments requires unique technical and historical skills.
The group is based in Venice and draws inspiration from the city’s integral role in baroque history, art and music.
Attendees can expect to hear the versatility of baroque music through a program that is mainly focused on Vivaldi’s work and the different genres he explored during his career. The pieces range from operatic, music drama and a violin concerto to great lyric pieces. Also included is a concerto specifically for recorder featuring Anna Fusek.
The Venice Baroque Orchestra and Fusek complement each other in their performances, as they are able to bring new musical experiences to audiences. From their first collaboration, the group and Fusek realized they were speaking the same language and formed a strong personal relationship
“Traveling the world and making music together is always an incredible experience, and we’re very excited for the warm welcome waiting in Boulder,” said Fusek.
