Shopping, cooking, baking, parties, decorating… do you have Holiday Fatigue yet? Well, here’s a great cure. A chance to sit back, relax and enjoy some wonderful holiday music, both old and new. The Greeley Chorale’s holiday concert, “Fa-la-la-le-lu-jah!” is Saturday, December 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Monfort Concert Hall at the UCCC. What’s more, it’s also your chance to raise YOUR voice in song, as part of this concert is a Messiah sing-along!
One of the world’s most beloved and oft-performed musical works, Handel’s Messiah is familiar to audiences worldwide. This concert is one of the few opportunities hear this magnificent work performed in Northern Colorado, and the only sing-along performance outside of Denver/Boulder. Soloists for Messiah are Jacquie Bowen and Anna Green, Altos; Geoffery Phillip, Bass; Taylor Deskin, Molly Ortiz and Anna Troyer, Sopranos; and Brian Wilcox, Tenor.
In addition to Messiah, the Chorale has some traditional holiday music planned, including arrangements of Jingle Bells, the Wassail Song, Ding, dong Merrily on High, and Mary’s Little Boy Chile. Composers range from Mack Wilberg, Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, to Jester Hairston, well-known American spiritual composer. This concert also highlights some of the individual talents of Chorale members, with numbers by soloists, duos and small ensembles including I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, O Holy Night, and a hilarious rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas (in the style of Straight, No Chaser.)
