• Fri, Jun 2, 10–11:30 a.m. “Geology Simplified Hike” Devil’s Backbone Open Space, west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34. Learn about the geology of this local landmark and the northern Front Range. This hike is geared toward folks who have little knowledge of geologic concepts and jargon. Hike rating: Easy. 1.5-hr. Free, register.
• Sat, Jun 3, 9–12 p.m. “Wildflower Photography Walk” A workshop on photographing wildflowers. Learn the techniques to take your photos from pretty to polished. Eagle’s Nest Open Space, near the Livermore/U.S. 287 junction. Hike rating: Easy, 3-hr. Free, register.
• Sat, Jun 10, 9–11:30 a.m. “Wildflower Walk” A guided wildflower walk at Hermit Park Open Space, southeast of Estes Park off of Hwy. 36. Find what’s in bloom while learning facts about local plant communities. Hike rating: Easy, 2.5-hr. Free, register.
• Sat, Jun 10, 9:30–12 p.m. “Nature Journaling Hike” A guided journaling hike at Red Mountain Open Space, north of Fort Collins. Armed with nothing but your thoughts, a pen, and paper, immerse yourself in nature to learn journaling techniques and grow your ideas and observations. Hike rating: Easy, 2.5-hr. Free, register.
• Fri, Jun 16, 10–11:30 a.m. “Geology Hike at the Devil’s Backbone” Discover the geology of Devil’s Backbone Open Space, just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34. Learn about this fascinating local landmark and the northern Front Range. Hike rating: Easy, 1.5-hr. Free, register.
• Sat, Jun 17, 9–11 a.m. “Wild and Wonderful Plants of the Foothills” A guided walk at Pinewood Reservoir’s Blue Mountain Trailhead, southwest of Loveland off of County Road 18E/Pole Hill Rd. See what’s in bloom and hear stories about the history and folklore of our Colorado plants. Hike rating: Easy, 2-hr. Free, register, $6 day-use.
• Fri, Jun 30, 9–11 p.m. “Stargazing with the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society” An up-close look at the night sky over the Rockies. Telescopes are available for viewing stars, galaxies, planets and more. This open house-style program is at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space parking lot, just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34.
