With a full roster of about 100 speakers and 200 sessions, the Conference on World Affairs (CWA) begins its one-week run from Monday, April 10 to Friday, April 14.

“The 69th year of the CWA will feature yet another week of impressive and engaging free events,” said John Griffin CWA faculty director. “Our all-volunteer program committee has been preparing an exciting schedule – addressing the central issues of our time with outstanding speakers from around the world.” This year’s conference, “Be Worldly,” includes three major themes – “Why Food Matters: A Taste of things to Come,” (or Future of Food), “Space Exploration” and “Democracy Now.” The event program contains icons corresponding to these themes as an aid to attendees for their schedule planning.

Dava Newman, Deputy Director of NASA, is scheduled as the 11:30 a.m. Keynote Speaker on Monday, April 10 in CU’s Macky Auditorium. Her topic is “Humanity’s Exploration: From Earth to Mars and Beyond.”

Throughout the week, Plenary Sessions are scheduled along with Roundtable ones where the moderators facilitate a discussion with the panelists. These, in addition to CWA@Night (programs beginning at 5 p.m. to accommodate students and working professionals), are identified with corresponding icons as well.

Chris Borland, known for his outspoken comments about brain injuries related to football, along with Ellie Shaffer, former presidential special assistant in the White House, are among the notable speakers. Kimbal Musk, owner of Colorado’s The Kitchen restaurants, will participate as will CU-Boulder alum Vicki Huddleston, retired ambassador to Mali and Madagascar

Once again, this conference is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend, a large majority of the panels and presentations will be live-streamed at colorado.edu/cwa.
