In Colorado, 17,000 people presently suffer from Parkinson’s disease. This disease affects over 1,000,000 Americans who are generally over 60 years of age.

Parkinson’s is a progressive, degenerative disorder that affects an individual’s muscle movements. Due to the dying of specific brain cells, people with Parkinson’s produce a low level of a vital chemical, Dopamine. Dopamine is responsible for transmitting messages to the part of the brain that determines the ability to make movements. Thus, facing a diagnosis of Parkinson’s is a life-changing prospect.

When first diagnosed with Parkinson’s, it is common to feel scared and alone. When one faces this daunting future, it is important to find support from people who understand what one is going through. The Greeley-Weld Parkinson’s Support Group can provide a rewarding and comforting experience in a friendly community setting.

The Greeley Parkinson’s Support Group meets at 10:00 a.m on the second floor of Hope Pool and Physical Therapy Center the fourth Thursday of every month. The Hope Therapy Center is located at 2780 28th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. The phone number is (970) 339-2444. For more information contact the Parkinson Association Greeley-Weld Support Group at (970) 400-9030.
