John Zabawa, President, and CEO of Seniors’ Resource Center has been appointed by Governor John Hickenlooper, to be a member of the Strategic Action Planning Group on Aging (SAPGA). Zabawa brings more than three decades of expertise on seniors’ issues to the group.
SAPGA examines:
• the impact of the aging demographic shift on the economy, workforce, businesses, market-based products, and services; state and local revenue budgets and fiscal policies;
• Medicaid and other safety-net programs and the collateral impact on other non-related state programs;
• family caregiving and public and private options for long-term care, services, and support;
• federal entitlement reforms; and transportation services and infrastructure.
Its mission is to lay out not only a vision for Colorado through 2030, but also to illuminate a path forward. SAPGA’s members represent a diverse array of experts on issues vital to Colorado’s aging population and its emerging needs. They represent communities across the state. Zabawa explained that SAPGA was formed through the Colorado legislature. He emphasized that Colorado is third in the nation in the growth population of seniors. Seniors’ Resource Center is based in Jefferson County, which is the area experiencing the fastest growth of seniors in the state.
Last November, SAPGA submitted a plan to address issues listed above. “I am delighted with the opportunity to continue providing my expertise for senior issues by participating with SAPGA and to be involved with various subcommittees to implement the recommendations that will benefit seniors throughout Colorado,” Zabawa said.
This appointment further taps into Zabawa’s experience. He was one of twelve appointed Colorado delegates to the White House Conference on Aging. He also has accepted other key appointments, serving on the State’s Long-Term Care Services Advisory Committee and the Governor’s Interagency Coordination Council for Transportation Access and Mobility.
Zabawa had previously announced his retirement from Seniors’ Resource Center, that will occur at the end of August. Colorado seniors will continue to benefit from his involvement in addressing their needs and with his help in implementing SAPGA’s recommendations through 2030.
