Larimer County is kicking off a planning effort that will guide the future of its reservoir parks and The Ranch Events Complex, and the public is encouraged to get involved in the process.
This yearlong process provides the public and user groups multiple venues and online opportunities to weigh-in on how facilities and management of Larimer County’s reservoir parks (Horsetooth, Flatiron, Pinewood and Carter Lake) and The Ranch can be improved.

It is envisioned that while this process will result in two separate plans with separate outcomes, the plans are being conducted in parallel for an efficient public involvement process. The combined effort allows decision makers to hear from a wider audience and gain input on the vast range of activities in Larimer County. Members of the public are invited to say how they want to be involved in the process, their satisfaction with these facilities and their initial thoughts by taking a brief survey at www.onegreatcountytoplay.com.
Two Plans, One Great County to Play! The Ranch Events Complex is creating a fully-integrated Master Plan that outlines facility alternatives, expansion and financial options to support these expansions as needed. The Ranch is owned and operated by Larimer County with facilities including the Budweiser Events Center, First National Bank Exhibition Halls, McKee 4-H, Youth and Community Building, Ranch-Way Feeds Indoor Arena and Pavilions, and outdoor courtyard spaces.
The Reservoir Parks Master Plan/Resource Management Plan updates the 2007 plan and provides future direction for Horsetooth Reservoir, Carter Lake, Pinewood Reservoir and Flatiron Reservoir. The Reservoir Parks Master Plan will identify priority project areas and detailed strategies to accomplish specified goals. Reservoir parks are managed by Larimer County Department of Natural Resources through an agreement with the federal Bureau of Reclamation.
Save the Date! Larimer County is hosting three public scoping meetings to refine the future vision of these facilities and identify issues and objectives. The meetings is held across the county on Aug. 22, Aug. 23 and Aug. 24. Additional information on the public scoping meetings will be distributed in advance.
