Greeley has joined cities across the country asking residents to commit to save water in the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation. The city encourages residents to save energy, reduce pollution, and make a pledge to save water at www.mywaterpledge.com/.
Cities with the highest percentage of residents who take the challenge are entered into drawings for hundreds of prizes, including home improvement gift cards, home irrigation equipment, and a Grand Prize Toyota Prius. The challenge also features information for residents to take their commitment for conservation even further with resources and cost-saving tips. Greeley is in the 30,000 to 99,999 category, because the population categories are based on the 2010 Census.
Greeley Mayor, Tom Norton, recorded a video to encourage residents to take the pledge. Watch now…
Last year, residents from over 3,900 cities in all U.S. states pledged to reduce their annual water use by 1.5 billion gallons, reduce waste sent to landfills by 47 million pounds, and prevent more than 141,000 pounds of hazardous waste from entering our watersheds. In 2012, Greeley was a winning city in the Challenge.
The 5th National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation is presented by the Wyland Foundation and Toyota, with support from the U.S EPA WaterSense, The Toro Company, National League of Cities, Conserva Irrigation, and Earth Friendly Products (makers of ECOS).
