We’ hope you’re joining us for the 6TH Annual Jefferson County Senior Law Day on Saturday, June 4TH. It should prove to be a rewarding and beneficial learning opportunity. We’ve planned educational sessions, taught by experts in their field, which allow you to gain knowledge about crime prevention and some of the most pressing legal and medical questions of relevance to older adults. We want you to have the tools that prepare you to face just about every life situation that may be coming down the road. And the experts who are teaching can be resources you may turn to later for assistance.
Our older adult population continues to swell in Jefferson County and the needs and concerns of seniors are a focus of high priority in the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office. As District Attorney, I have made a commitment to place an emphasis upon the needs of the most vulnerable among our population: this includes our children and our aging adults. Our “Communities Against Senior Exploitation” crime prevention program provides information that would keep older adults from becoming victims of scams, ID theft, and exploitation. The community is invited to call our Fraud Hotline (303-271- 6980) and discuss their questions and concerns before they ever respond to a request for personal or financial information.
When an older adult becomes a victim of crime, our Elder Abuse Crimes Unit is dedicated to vigorously prosecuting offenders. The message must be clear that Jefferson County is not a safe place to prey upon older adults. Our dedicated elder abuse prosecutors, investigator, and victim witness specialist work exclusively with At-risk adults, victims of elder abuse crimes, and with the law enforcement offices in Jefferson County. Crimes against older adults must diminish!
Please make time to attend our 6TH Senior Law Day on Saturday, June 4TH. Find resources for now and the future. Know that today and every day, your District Attorney’s Office seeks your best welfare and safety.
With kind regards, Peter Weir, Jefferson & Gilpin Counties District Attorney
