As warmer weather and summer sunny days return to Colorado, thoughts of fun events to enjoy with your family come to mind as well. The Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts continues to present Family Fun Concerts you can enjoy to create musical memories with your loved ones.
The Family Fun Concerts Series begins with the entertaining and educational Young People’s Concert on Saturday, July 2, 10:00 am at Chautauqua Auditorium, Sō Percussion, an innovative group from Brooklyn, NY, joins Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni and the CMF orchestra. Sō Percussion is on a mission to create and present new collaborative works to adventurous and curious audiences and educational initiatives to engaged students.
These YPC concerts are designed to be a fun introduction to classical music. On the program is Colin Matthew’s Machines and Dreams! Inspired by Mozart’s Toy Symphony, Machines and Dreams is a symphonic masterpiece that has been described as “full of broad as well as sly humor,” and features as solo “instruments,” everything from toy pianos to fishing rods to bird calls.
Following the 50-min. concert there is a hands on workshop with Sō Percussion outside on the North Lawn in conjunction with an interactive Lawn Fair. At the Lawn Fair, you can mingle with one of the characters and have a more hands-on interaction with music.
Also, save the date, Sunday July 3, 4 pm at Chautauqua Auditorium for celebrating Independence Day with the CMF brass ensemble’s Patriotism & Pops: Red White & Brass! They will perform patriotic and pop favorites from festive marches to the always exciting 1812 overture!
For a more intimate experience with the music and musicians, CMF & CMA is hosting Family Fun Concerts that give younger children a chance to meet different sections of the orchestra. These performances are more informal, 45-minute programs with a Q&A following each performance. Join us with your family on Sunday, July 10 and Sunday, July 31 at 3 pm at Chautauqua Auditorium.
