Affordable, reliable and adequate oil and natural gas is critical for our quality of life, national security and economic wellbeing. A proven technique established in the 1940’s combined with the ability to drill horizontally has created abundant supplies of oil and natural gas. This technique known as hydraulic fracturing enables oil and natural gas to be extracted from solid rock formations deep below the earth’s surface.
The following facts are important to understanding the benefits of energy development in our local communities.
1. Hydraulic fracturing takes place over one mile below the surface of the ground
2. Fracking fluid is 99.5 percent sand and water
3. Multiple layers of steel and concrete protect water supplies
4. Construction of a well only takes a few weeks and produces for up to 20 years
5. Over ten different companies are involved in the energy development process
6. Colorado is a leader in regulating the permitting and processes of energy development
7. EPA, CSU and Yale University studies have all demonstrated that there are no widespread and systemic environmental impacts on water quality
8. Energy development provides over 100,000 jobs in Colorado and millions of dollars paid to local communities
9. Revenues to local communities funds services to seniors and those in poverty
10. The development of new energy resources has made the U.S. a leader in oil and gas supplies
We live in times of energy transformation. New developments in traditional energy resources are taking place along with “renewable” energy development. This means energy independence for the United States and abundant, reliable and affordable energy for the future. For more information go to www.larimerleap.com/.
