Colorado Black Women for Political Action (CBWPA) announces its 2015 “Tribute to Black Women” award recipients are honored at CBWPA’s 36th Annual Award Luncheon on October 10, 2015, at the Renaissance Hotel, 3801 Quebec Street. The event starts at 12 noon; doors open at 11:15 am.
7 outstanding African-American women are recognized for excellence. The 2015 honorees are:
Education: Barbara Allen, Founder, Denver School of History, retired Denver Public School teacher.
Politics: Reverand Dawn Riley Duval, Co-Founder, “Black Lives Matter 5280,” political advocate and social justice advocate.
Business: Claudia E. Abernethy, small business owner and tenant rights activist.
Cultural Arts: Dr. Claudette Sweet, vocalist and musician, specializing in promoting cultural awareness and Negro Spirituals.
Community Service: Jandel Allen-Davis, MD, Vice President of Government, External Relations and Research, Kaiser Permanente Colorado.
Legend: Jewel dine Blair, life-long civic leader, community volunteer.
Youth: Daryn Alexandria Fouther, East High School graduate, student leader, volunteer teacher’s assistant and tutor with Girls, Inc., entered CSU in August, 2015.
Special Recognition Award for Lifetime Achievement and Excellence: Rosalind “Bee” Harris, Publisher, Denver Urban Spectrum.
President’s Award: Lady Jane-Frances Echeozo, RN, MSN, Community leader, Organizer and Administrator.
