Coming from a busy 50th Anniversary season, Greeley Chorale members contemplated the 51st season. “How do we top that?”
Undaunted, Artistic Director/Conductor Dr. Galen Darrough has chosen the theme “What Sweeter Music”. A season to appeal to most tastes, with fare performed by choirs everywhere, plus folk songs, patriotic works, spirituals, holiday favorites and works from Broadway. “We might even sing The Beatles,” he said.
Concerts reflect themes like love, devotion, and a celebration of the human experience. Saturday, October 10 brings “All You Need is Love!”, at 7:30pm in First United Methodist Church. Works include Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, and pieces from Broadway, folk music, and other composers (maybe the Beatles?)
December brings the holidays, and the Chorale’s traditional biennial presentation of Messiah on Saturday, December 19 at 7:30pm in Union Colony Civic Center. Choirs from Greeley area high schools join the Chorale on stage, creating an immense choir. According to Darrough, “This was a tremendous success in 2011, when we had close to 250 voices on the stage. We’re looking forward to it again, and we hope people take a break from the holiday rush to come, listen, and enjoy the spirit of the season.”
It’s not January in Greeley without the Farm Show, and it’s not February without Pops & Pasta. Chorale members serve a chef-prepared pasta meal to their audiences, and entertain them with solos and small ensembles. The event also offers a silent auction with more than 100 items ranging from sports tickets to home-cooked meals and desserts. Two shows – 1:00pm and 6:30pm – on Saturday, February 27, 2016, benefit the Greeley Chorale Developement Fund. Pops & Pasta is at St. Mary Church’s Parish Center, 2222 23rd Ave.
The 51st season closes with “An Evening in Vienna… and Beyond!” on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 7:30pm in Union Colony Civic Center. “Perhaps no city in the world has produced and nurtured more great composers than Vienna,” Darrough explained. “Schubert, Mozart and Haydn are on the program, and a masterwork with orchestra,” he added.
The Chorale’s 51st season is sponsored by Banner Health/North Colorado Medical Center, the Good Samaritan Greeley Communities and the Greeley Tribune. Tickets for all events are available now at greeleychorale.org, 356-5000 or 1-800-315-ARTS.
