Windsor Community Playhouse has been awarded the right to produce a new play from the American Association of Community Theatres. This award is a true honor and is evidence of the high regard the Association has for WCP.
Playwrights from across the country sent in scripts to be perused by AACT. When WCP was chosen, one of only seven in the country, the local playhouse was overjoyed! It took over a month for the new play to be awarded. AACT sent WCP 14 plays to read. WCP chose its top three that they thought could be produced in their theatre. WCP received their first choice.
The play selected is “Lighthouse,” written by William Baer, from New Jersey. A recent Guggenheim fellow, he received a 2015 AACT NewPlayFest Award and the New Works of Merit Playwriting Award. His plays have been produced or read at over 30 American theatres. A recent work, “Three Generations of Imbeciles,” was chosen for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Saginaw, Michigan. Mr. Baer is a graduate of Rutgers, NYU, John Hopkins and USC.
He is the author of 20 books including Time Square & Other Stories and Classic American Films.
William Baer’s play is the 1st Windsor Community Playhouse production in the coming 2015-2016 Season. Windsor and surrounding communities are invited to welcome Mr. Baer at an opening night of “Lighthouse” reception, Friday, September 25th at 5 p.m. Local dignitaries join in this festive occasion. In addition, the Vice President of American Association of Community Theaters will attend; as well as a representative of Dramatists Publishing Company.
