When I first moved into my Aurora townhouse, I was heart-broken because there was no place to plant flowers. I had moved from Greeley, Colorado on acreage with room for flowers and a garden. I decided to have three window boxes made for my new patio. A longtime friend from Eaton, Colorado helped me with the final touches, making sure these window boxes would withstand years of use. One box looks over my kitchen window, one over my den, and the third over my patio.
This small patio has been my total joy for all seasons. In the patio window box contains 15 bright red geraniums. Each year I purchase 36 plants from T. J. Pickens schools annual spring sale. Students grow these plants, and I like to support their cause each year. My geraniums have withstood hail and so much rain, but somehow they sur- vived and look gorgeous!
My patio is surrounded on three sides with lots of green foliage. White twinkling lights are hidden in the foliage and are turned on at for all to enjoy. Red metal chairs are covered in a waterproof red fabric. Each chair has a decorative pillow with red and white polka dots or read and white stripes. A round metal table works well for eating. The table is often covered with a red and white checked tablecloth. A red Swedish candelabrum hangs over the table, with candles and sparking crystal hanging below. A canvas fabric breaker is attached to a metal rod giving me privacy. White metal pots with red geraniums hang from the breaker. Two hanging baskets are filled with red geraniums and a red geranium canvas picture completes the setting. A water fall also runs giving a calm feeling.
Each morning I have coffee on my patio, and I thank God for these flowers. I remember His unconditional love for all of us, and repeat the Bible verse from Isaiah 40:8 – “The grass wither, the flower fades but the word of God stands forever”
