On April 25th, Larimer County Natural Resources and volunteers worked together to spring clean and prepare areas for summer guests and visitors to recreation areas in Larimer County.
Staff and over 136 Northern Colorado Comcast employees celebrated Comcast Cares Day at Pinewood Reservoir Campground to finish renovation projects before the grand re-opening. Volunteers cut over 1000 ft. of new trail around the campgrounds and constructed a human-sized raptor nest in the new playscape area.
Also celebrating CSUnity Day, staff and student volunteers from Beta Gamma Nu removed 80 ft. of old split rail fence from Horsetooth Falls. The fence was in poor shape and no longer needed, students hiked in two miles to the work site, removed the fence, and then carried it out. The effort saved over 20 hours of staff time and was completed in a little over 2 hours. A second CSUnity project brought student volunteers from Phi Delta Theta Fraternity to volunteer at Devil’s Backbone Open Space to remove barbed-wire fence and posts. Volunteers cut, rolled and removed 4,756 feet of barbed wire and 85 T-posts, all loaded into trucks and either recycled or saved to be reused. This project saved 96 hours of staff time and was completed by the volunteers in a little over two hours. The Department of Natural Resources benefits greatly from dedicated volunteers and deeply appreciates the efforts of such committed citizens. The tremendous efforts of our volunteers vastly improve the special places that Larimer County residents call home.
