Are you a western history fan looking for an active group of like-minded, fun-loving people? The Ghost Town Club of Colorado, based in Denver, has been committed to learning about and exploring all facets of western history for the past 57 years. This is accomplished by monthly programs on varied topics and member-led field trips that take place throughout the year. The excursions vary in length from half-day local trips to multi-day trips throughout Colorado and the west. The club also is proud to provide small financial help to nonprofit preservation projects every year since the club first formed in 1958. Some of the projects supported include Amache Internment Camp, Historic Elitch Gardens Theater, Boggsville Historic Site and the Saguache County Museum.
The club meets at 7:30 p.m. 10 times a year at Grace United Methodist Church, 4905 East Yale Avenue. An annual banquet and an annual picnic replace the meeting two months of the year. The next meeting, free and open to the public, will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Grace United Methodist Church. The program will be an oral presentation by Bill Crowley, Operations Coordinator, Fort Vasquez Museum, on the topic of The Four Forts of the Fur Trade along the South Platte Drainage. Membership is a bargain at only $25 per person annually, which includes a monthly news letter.
