Windsong’s Popular Montessori Learning Method

WindSong at Northridge is always looking to provide something new and different for our residents! Montessori is our model and purposeful living and active participation in our home-like environment is always at the forefront of activity’s planning. WindSong is a standalone memory care facility, and we look for ways to make feel good memories and have participation from families and employees. Those with Dementia may not remember the facts, but they remember how they felt!

With resident input, WindSong hosted a Dog Show for our 4th of July celebration. With a festive fruit and whip cream cup and watermelon, residents were able to snack and watch the pups prance the red carpet. Winter, Storm, Wilbur, Morgan, Daisy, Peppers, and Lexie went head-to-head to compete for WindSong’s top prize of resident chosen “Best in Show”! Participants posed with their owners then scampered off to play in the kid pools set aside for cool down stations. One resident fed blueberries to tempt the pooches over for some pets.

With lemonade in hand, residents voted on which dog was “Best in Show.” The winner was a 5-year-old husky named Winter. Wilbur, the bull dog, was a close second.

If you’re looking for a home for your loved one with a dementia diagnosis, give Genelle Davis, Community Relations Director, a call to schedule a tour and learn about the Montessori model.
