For 35 years, residents of northern Colorado have turned to Rehabilitation and Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) when seeking home health care. RVNA began operations on August 31, 1979 when the first patient was opened to services. Prior to that time, the only home health care services available in Weld County were provided through the Weld County Health Department. A decrease in health department funding, lead to a reduction in services, and resulted in health care providers, community leaders and consumers determining there would be community support for a nonprofit home health agency, thus, the formation of RVNA. Expansion into Larimer County occurred in 1986 when the Larimer County VNA ceased operations and RVNA assumed responsibilities for the clients in the area.
Lori Follett, current CEO, credits the longevity of RVNA to the stability of the agency – having only had two CEOs prior to her installation at the helm in July of 2014. “The dedication of our past CEOs, Kay Grounds and Crystal Day, to the mission of RVNA, contributed greatly to the success of the agency. Without the consistency of leadership, a nonprofit faces daunting challenges that make longevity very difficult if not impossible,” says Follett.
As a community based, not-for-profit corporation, RVNA Home Care provides high quality home health services including nursing, physical & occupational therapy, speech language pathology, social work, home health aide care and other community health services. Ever sensitive to the financial circumstances of qualified patients, RVNA provides services at reduced or no charge rates, within the constraints of available community support resources, to those who are uninsured or underinsured. For example, in 2014, nearly $90,000 of uncompensated services were provided. Grants and donations help off-set the associated costs of such services. Today’s economic environment has also prompted RVNA to pursue fundraising events and opportunities, so watch for more coming details.
Always true to its mission, RVNA collaborates in partnerships to provide exceptional family-centered and compassionate home care solutions to the residents of Larimer and Weld Counties and RVNA is set to continue to be the agency of choice in this area. “We at RVNA Home Care believe that people thrive when they are able to be in the friendly environs of their own home. Our caring, thoughtful staff strives to see that the people we serve achieve the highest possible outcomes for goals they help set for themselves,” adds Sheri Jo Wayman, Director of RVNA’s Clinical Services.
