UNC Opera Theatre is proud to present a lively program of opera scenes comprised of scenes concerning correspondence as depicted in various operas. This production promises to deliver an evening of diverse and exciting entertainment: a spirited scene from Mark Adamo’s Little Women depicts the adventures of the beloved characters from Louisa May Alcott’s novel, as recorded in their letters. Sinister plotting and ulterior motives run rampant in A Weekend in the Country, excerpted from Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.
The second half of the evening consists of various scenes from productions based on William Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor: Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff, Ottorino Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Sir John in Love.
“Opera is notorious for complicated plot twists,” opined Director of Opera Theatre, Brian Clay Luedloff. “A letter is late, a note is passed, a missive goes missing, and all hell breaks loose. It’s why we love opera so much!” These scenes are directed by students participating in the UNC Directing Seminar, supervised by Professor Brian Clay Luedloff. The program is performed twice on Saturday, April 4th, at 2:00pm and 7:30pm in the Hensel Phelps Theater at the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley, Colorado.
