Katie Fahrenbruch, Northern Colorado Regional Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, will present Successful Communication for Persons with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease at the Fifth Annual Elder Care Resource Day event in the Fort Collins Senior Center on March 28.
During her luncheon presentation, Katie will discuss effective communication techniques and how to observe and respond to different and unusual behaviors often experienced with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. There will be a question and answer session with the audience on these medical issues. Her presentation will be recorded and available on the Elder Care Network’s website at eldercarenet.org in late April.
Katie is a graduate of Colorado State University and holds a B.S. in Psychology and M.Ed. in Human Resource Development. In her role as Regional Director, Katie increases awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s by conducting educational programs throughout the community for family caregivers and professionals. She also consults with families, caregivers, and people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or other dementias to develop action plans that assist in navigation through this disease. Before joining the Alzheimer’s Association, Katie worked as the director of a training program for adults with developmental disabilities. Katie is from the South but now lives in Fort Collins with her husband and daughter.
