Tigges Farm, 12404 County Road 64 1/2, Greeley, a favorite fall destination for roasted chilies, fresh produce & pumpkin picking patches – August thru October, 10am-6pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Sun Sept 4). It is a free admission family friendly farm run by three oldie, (but goodie), siblings, a slew of family volunteers & a few loyal employees. The October events are mostly free. Besides the events, (listed in advertisement elsewhere), there is more to do
every day they are open. There is the farm equipment museum where you can do a self guided viewing tour.
There is a “Flamingo Scavenger Hunt” you can download from website (see ad). Why flamingos? Their march is so happy – so they are just doing the “Flamingoween.” The barn quilt gallery of twelve includes four new blocks. “Barn Chickens “because their mom loved chickens, “4-H Clover” because of their 4-H roots. “Summer Winds” because that comes with summer. “Friendliness” because they are family friendly.
Tigges Farm is extending “friendliness” to include Shawn Varnell, a Colorado volunteer mechanic, in Ukraine. In a recent communications with the farm, he said, It’s funny,” people say how brave and heroic it is that I have gone to Ukraine. I
don’t feel particularly brave and have done nothing I would regard as heroic. But I am reminded of the ending speech from Steven Spielberg’s movie, Band of Brothers. A grandson asks his grandfather if he was a hero during the second world war. The grandfather responds ‘No, but I served in a company of heroes.’ I echo that sentiment. Now, when people tell me I’m a
hero, I tell them: ‘No, but I have lived in a city of heroes.’” Tigges Farm encourages you to donate to www.RescueNow.com.ua to support Ukraine humanitarian volunteers. Article by Kathy Rickart, Co-Manager
