Evergreen is about 1400 miles from New Orleans. But after a two-year Covid hiatus, the scenic mountain community will again
become “Bourbon Street with Altitude” as it hosts the 2022 Evergreen Jazz Festival July 29-31. Nationally known for its
combination of top bands, intimate venues and appealing mountain setting, the Festival presents over 80 hours of live traditional jazz ranging from Dixieland to swing to blues, boogie-woogie and ragtime. It was started by a small group of
jazz-loving Evergreen locals in 2001 and has become a major event on the community calendar and on the calendars of jazz fans
across the country.
This year’s event features ten world-class bands, about half from Colorado and half from California, New Orleans, Nashville and New York. Along with the top-quality music, the festival is known for its intimate venues, making every set an upclose-and-personal experience that both audience and musicians enjoy.
As many as four stages will be active at any one time, with patrons welcome to move freely from one to another. The Elks Lodge
Ballroom is especially popular with dancers, while the Elks Patio provides a delightful outdoor listening environment. Evergreen Christian Church is an acoustic marvel, and the beautiful Evergreen Lake House provides an idyllic setting for great music.
Other festival highlights include a two-hour educational concert which is free and open to the public, professional demonstrations of Jazz Age dances, youth band performances and the Sunday gospel service featuring the Queen City Jazz Band with vocal great Wende Harston.
