LETA911 is excited to announce the ability to send a text message to 9-1-1 as an integrated service in our already robust 9-1-1 network. The text to 9-1-1 service has been tested since Mid July and now is live for the public.
During the testing, Fort Collins 9-1-1 received a live text to 9-1-1 call for help from a citizen that felt a voice call would add danger to the situation.
Texting to 9-1-1 provides accessibility to the hearing and speech impaired population, provides an alternative to reach help in a dangerous situation when a voice call is not possible, and in our high country where a voice call fails but texting is successful.
Only 2% of all 9-1-1 dispatch centers across the nation are capable of receiving a text to 9-1-1 message. LETA911 is pleased to join the 2% to open this communication path to our citizens, our visitors, and our community.
Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority (LETA911) is the governing authority for the administration of 9-1-1 in Larimer County Colorado. LETA911 supports five 9-1-1 centers in Larimer County: name them; and, twenty-five government partners.
