Kilowatt Eights

2014 Kilowatt EightsKilowatt Eights Square Dance Club is celebrating its 75th Anniversary on October 3rd at the Malley Recreation Center.

A catered dinner and a square dance. Dave Guille from Cheyenne and Bill Heiny the Club caller will call the square dance and Mitchell Thompson of Golden will provide the round dance cueing.

The Clubs history began September 1939 as a supervisor at Public Service Company of Colorado Joe Lang formed the Club within the Companies’ own G&E Club, the Club that oversaw employee organizations. The first dance was held in the 3rd Avenue and Lipan Street truck garage until WWII security forced the Club to dance in a converted barn at 50 Alcott Street until 1946. The Club danced in the lunchroom near the garage until more space was needed by more dancers in 1948. The Wight Building’s auditorium downtown was the dance home until crowding forced the Club to move to the Belleview Center in Littleton. The Club changed its name to its current name in 1956.

In 1978 the Club left the care of Public Service Company and was on its own.

Kilowatt Eights danced at such locations as Terry and Oliver Elementary Schools in Sheridan., Glendale Fire Station and now its current home at the Malley Recreation Center for the past 20 years.

Wednesday night classes, from 7 to 9 pm, started September 10th at Englewood 1st Presbyterian Church 3100 South Logan Street. Another class starts Monday nights October 20 in Centennial at Grandview Grange South Vine Street & East Noble Place. Contact Karen and Ron at 303-759-4862 for information.
