The Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado will be honoring WWII Veterans during its annual Memorial Day Weekend celebration, May 27-30. The official ceremony will at noon on Sunday, May 29 and, weather permitting, will include raising of the colors, prayer, keynote presentation by a WWII veteran, additional guest speakers, inspirational observances, soil ceremony, 21-gun salute, taps, and vintage aircraft flyover. WWII vehicles will be on display and vendors and food trucks will be in the plaza. The 67th Army Band will be performing following the ceremony.
The weekend at Veterans Plaza honors the service and accomplishments of our WWII veterans, both living and deceased, and honors their sacrifices given for our country, its citizens, and each other. The war effort was supported by those on the home front who willingly complied with rationing and worked in the factories to build the military’s support and supply system; Veterans Plaza will also be honoring those sacrifices.
WWII veterans and family of WWII veterans unable to attend or who have passed are encouraged to attend and bring photos of their loved ones who served in WWII. On Saturday evening, Veterans Plaza will be hosting movie night for the community and will show, “The Longest Day,” at the plaza at 8 pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Monday, Memorial Day, will be a day of solitude at the Veterans Plaza. Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club will be hosting a “Field of Flags” in the field north of the Plaza.
