In 1991, the Greeley/Weld Senior Foundation, Inc. was formed for the purpose of honoring Weld County area senior citizens and their achievements. And recently, that was done at a Hall Of Fame Award Luncheon, held at the Greeley Recreation Center.
Alex Zauder, Jerry Joyce and LeRoy Athmann were inducted into the Hall of Fame for their countless hours of volunteering and dedication to seniors. The Dr. Winchester Humanitarian Award was presented to Mindy Rickard, Director of The Bridge in Greeley.
The Media Recognition Award was given to our own 50 Plus Marketplace News Associate Publisher Michael Buckley. Eva Jewell, Weld County Area Agency on Aging Division Head was the President’s Award recipient. These awards recognized the invaluable contributions given to seniors and the community. The Outstanding Senior Project award was presented to Johnstown Senior Center, High Plains Rotary Club of Eaton was recognized for their Outstanding Service to Seniors. Ault, Erie, Fort Lupton, Greeley, Johnstown, Lo-chbuie, Mead and Platteville were on the receiving end of Senior Center Grants to be used for projects at their centers. Professional Development recognition was given to Cindy Gerhardt, Christy Landry, Shirley Newsom-Gamez and Tiffany Skoglund. Entertainment was provided by the Greeley Chorale. A beautiful rendition of God Bless America was sung by Debbie Rhoads. Bob Bernd served as MC. Rev. David Meek delivered the Invocation and Benediction. Greeley ProTem Mayor, John Gates read a Proclamation from the city honoring the Hall of Fame event. Event sponsors were Weld County Area Agency on Aging, Hardcastle & Associates, Guaranty Bank, Union Colony Civic Center. Centerpieces were compliments of MeadowView of Greeley. There was a large attendance and their applause was loud and clear for all those being recognized.
