During Older Americans Month in May, Larimer County Office on Aging awarded two volunteer recipients with their annual family caregiver and volunteer of the year awards. The Office on Aging requests nominations for distinguished individuals meeting their criteria. This year with the help of their presenters and county commissioners Jody Shadduck McNally, Kristin Stephens, and John Kefalas, the awards were given via the county’s Zoom teleconferencing service.
The Family Caregiver of the Year award was presented to Robin Tolbert by Cyndy Luzinski, Executive Director of Dementia Together and a facilitator for the popular Memory Cafes. Cyndy explained Robin is a loving caregiver for her husband Don who was diagnosed with dementia four years ago. Robin participated in a dementia training program to be a caregiver for her husband. Robin recently said that Don has taken care of her when she needed it and she is happy to do the same for him.
The Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Steve Robinson, nominated by Diane Cohn with Volunteers of America. Steve started volunteering locally as soon as he and his wife, Susie, moved here in 2014. Steve volunteers with Volunteers of America, a driver for SAINT, volunteers at the Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Colorado Welcome Center, volunteer ranger assistant with Larimer County, and volunteers at the hospital. Steve exemplifies the kind of quiet, compassionate, and friendly person that make our community a great place to live. He inspires us, and we are blessed to have him in Larimer County. Thanks to Larimer County for promoting this annual event!
