Boulder City Council Appoints Interim City Attorney

The Boulder City Attorney Recruitment Committee, which consists of Council Members Rachel Friend and Bob Yates, recommended Sandra Llanes for the interim position, since the process to recruit a new city attorney is ongoing. The city attorney is one of three staff positions appointed by City Council, as dictated by city charter. Ms. Llanes will begin her new role on May 24, before City Attorney Tom Carr’s last day on June 11.

Ms. Llanes joined the Boulder City Attorney’s Office in 2002. She has served in various roles during her time with the city, including as a prosecutor and as an advisor to several city departments and boards. In her current role as deputy city attorney, she serves on the office management team, supervises the prosecution division, and continues to advise several departments and boards. She has also been the office lead on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She graduated from the University of Colorado Law School in 1998.
