Larimer County Announces 2014 Senior Volunteer and Caregiver Awards

The Larimer County Office on Aging’s Advisory Council today awarded the 2014 Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award to David McKibbin, PhD, of Fort Collins, and the 2014 Outstanding Family Caregiver Award to Sandy Phillips of Loveland. This annual event celebrates Older American’s Month. The annual awards are named after a former county volunteer, Stan Ulrich (pictured left), who volunteered for many years before he passed away last year. Over 75 people attended the second annual volunteer awards ceremony at the Office on Aging office. Refreshments were served after the ceremony.

David (pictured center) was nominated for Outstanding Senior Volunteer by residents of several retirement communities because of his outstanding volunteer efforts. David currently teaches classes at several retirement villages in Fort Collins. He lectures on American history at the residences through PowerPoint slide presentations, photos, music and related video.

Sandy (pictured right) was nominated for Outstanding Family Caregiver due to her support for her entire family including her parents and siblings. Many people think of a caregiver as someone taking care of one person, but Sandy was a caregiver for her entire family. It was mentioned that Sandy retains an upbeat attitude and sense of humor during her family caregiving duties.

The Larimer County Office on Aging received nominations in March and April. Since 1963, communities across the nation have come together to celebrate Older Americans Month, a proud tradition that shows our nation’s commitment to recognizing the contributions and achievements of older Americans.
