Sassy Kandles

by Michael Buckley

Sara Bakula, originally from Iowa, resides in Windsor, with her husband, Jude and their sons Danner and Garrett. Business opportunities and their love for The Rocky Mountains brought them here.

Sara enjoys reading mystery fiction and baking. She was quick to say, “Anything with sugar and plenty of it.” Family time often involves hiking, biking and walking around Windsor Lake.

Her ownership and operating The Sassy Kandle Company is a 10 to 20 hour weekly commitment for Sara. Six months of intensive candle making research (how to, supplies, fragrances, required materials, customer wants and marketing plans) laid a solid foundation for launching her successful and fun kandle making business 1 1⁄2 year ago. Using a k instead of a c in kandle brings uniqueness to the company name.

Sara decided on a soy/paraffin blend for her kandles. The combination provided cooler/longer burning, better scent throw, and better color holding qualities for her kandles. This has resulted in customer satisfaction, appreciation and repeat business.

To further insure this, Sara brings together ‘test groups’ to explore new products which, in turn, leads to bringing first class and an appealing selection of kandles, usually numbering between 35 and 40 at any given time to her customers. Scents like Cowboy ‘actual saddle leather,’ Black Tie Affair, Hot French Bread, Mountain Lake, Mango Peach Medley make for interesting and unique choices.

Sara’s Sassy Kandles are ideal gifts for any special occasion. She often displays at craft shows; especially around the holidays. Baby shower, bridal shower, birthdays, Wedding favors, really any occasion, special orders are available.
