Douglas County in BOLDERBoulder Memorial Weekend 10K Race

BOLDERBoulder will bring the race to a runner’s choice of six locations throughout the Front Range. Greenland Ranch Open Space. Today, the BOLDERBoulder and Douglas County officially announced the Douglas County Greenland Open Space Trail as the sixth, in-person location for this Memorial Day weekend 10K event, previously run entirely in Boulder, Colorado.

BOLDERBoulder Marathon Race

Last week, organizers of the BOLDERBoulder announced that the traditional BOLDER-Boulder could not be staged this Memorial Day due to public health restrictions associated with the COVID-19 virus. Not wanting to lose its Memorial Day tradition, the BOLDERBoulder has created a unique Memorial Day Weekend experience called BOLDER ON THE RUN 10K. Since participants cannot run race in Boulder, the BOLDER Boulder will bring the race to six locations along the Front Range.

Participants will have the opportunity to complete their 10K on a measured, marked, and timed course, from 6:30-a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily over the Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, May 29; Sunday, May 30; and Monday, May 31).

The Greenland Open Space Trail location features a wide dirt trail in the foothills of Douglas County. Nature lovers will appreciate this trail with its out-and-back course and the magnificent backdrop of Pikes Peak, without the brutal elevation gain of other mountain trails.

“How exciting and appropriate that Douglas County – named the healthiest County in the state and one of the healthiest communities in the nation – would have the opportunity to co-host the 4th largest running race in the United States and the 7th largest in the world,” said Douglas County Commissioner and Board Chair Lora Thomas. “Being on the map for this celebrated event not only allows our residents to participate closer to home, it also opens the door for visitors to experience the stunning beauty and tranquility of Greenland Ranch, as well as our cultural, restaurant, retail and lodging offerings.”

Cliff Bosley, Race Director of BOLDER Boulder stated, “Lora Thomas and the outstanding team at Douglas county have been greatly supportive in the planning and course selection. Their prompt attention and speedy turnaround allowed us to assemble a course that showcases the fabulous open space and trails in and around the county. We’re excited that our participants get to run, jog, or walk their race on this course.”
