Assistance League Receives Colorado’s 5 Star Certification

In February, The Assistance League® of Greeley received 5-Star Accreditation, A Safe Place to Be, from a program sponsored by the cities of Greeley, Evans and Windsor, and the Greeley Area Chamber of Commerce. The accreditation indicates that the Bargain Box Thrift Store, 1706 9th Street in Greeley, takes extra health and safety measures to mitigate COVID-19 for its customers and volunteers.

Masks and social distancing are required in the store and all surfaces are disinfected on a regular basis. The store limits customers to 20 at one time to avoid overcrowding and offers hand sanitizer when customers enter and as they leave.

Health department COVID prevention information is prominently posted throughout the store. A grant from the Boettcher Foundation allowed the organization to install LED air purification units in the ventilation system, as well. The store is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Proceeds from sales at the Bargain Box fund the six community support programs offered by the Assistance League each year. Plans are currently underway to order school uniforms for children in seven Title I schools in Greeley Evans School District 6, and applications are available for Single Parent Scholarships available to Aims Community College and UNC students.

In late February, the Assistance League collected donations of children’s books and healthy snacks with the help of community partner The Human Bean of Northern Colorado. More than 400 books and 2000 individually wrapped snacks were donated during ACTION! Week.
