Betty Campbell and Connie Morgan, mother and daughter, have volunteered together at Apex Park and Recreation District’s Community Recreation Center, for over two years. They share a Friday morning shift at the center’s front desk, along with many other volunteer responsibilities. They’ve both been on the Senior Council, greeters, Craft Carousel, the annual Craft Fair, and the Bunny Breakfast, to name a few! They are knowledgeable and dedicated and both cite variety as a favorite aspects of volunteering.
A native of Boulder, Betty is 81 and moved to Arvada 14 years ago. She raised 3 children; Connie, 58, is the oldest and the only girl. Betty has 7 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Connie has lived in Arvada for 35 years and has 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
Betty has a strong background in community volunteering outside the Center. Among other activities, she was a member of the Vision 2020 volunteer strategic planning group for Apex Park and Recreation District, and she’s volunteered at Arvada’s Ralston House for 6 years. Betty mentions Ralston House’s current pinwheel garden fund-raiser to bring awareness to National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Connie also spends time volunteering at other organizations, including her church and Hope House, an Arvada nonprofit that helps parenting teen mothers and their children become safer and more self-sufficient.
They talk on the phone every day, and are friends beyond their family relationship. At times, they even hold each other accountable, Betty said. “We went on a diet together right after Christmas; I wasn’t getting the results I wanted, so Connie had to remind me to lay off the Tootsie Rolls and CheezIts.”
If you visit the CRC, stop and say hello to Betty and Connie. As much time as they give there, the odds are high that you’ll see them! Many thanks to this energetic and caring duo.
