A full day of events planned for The Salute to Seniors, 25th Anniversary Expo

“She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah . . .” Who could forget those lyrics when the Beatles made their hit debut appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February, 1964?

Fifty years later that same song and the legendary Beatles are still a hit. You can relive that moment and that sound at the 25th Anniversary of the Salute to Seniors as the Fab 4 Beatles Tribute Band take to the stage as headline entertainment for the event. This main stage attraction is sponsored by Hearing Rehab Center.

The Salute to Seniors, sponsored by Colorado Access and hosted by the Denver Human Services, has become a staple event over the years for Colorado Baby Boomers and their parents, making its 25th appearance this year at the Colorado Convention Center on Saturday, May 31, 2014. The largest resource expo of its kind, the Salute to Seniors will feature approximately 100 exhibits with over 200 aging experts to answer questions for older adults who are making decisions for the future.

A full day of events promises to keep Expo attendees entertained as The Long Run, Colorado’s Tribute to the Eagles also makes a special appearance to engage 70’s music fans with classic rock hits such as “Take It Easy” and “Hotel California.”

As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration, Colorado Leaders including Mayor Wellington Webb, City Auditor Dennis Gallagher, “Senior Citizen of the Air Waves” Justina ‘Mama Kat’ Curlee, Artist Stevon Lucero, and former football great Marv Montgomery will be honored and take time for a meet and greet opportunity with attendees. These leaders, along with Eugene Dawson, retired and first president of the Colorado Gerontological Society will receive the Eugene Dawson Presidential Leadership Award.

For vintage car fans, the Forney Transportation Museum will provide an exhibit of 60’s era cars, including the ever-favorite Beetle Bug, a VW Van, a ‘64 Mustang and more.

Morning entertainment features a short exercise segment to get attendees energized, followed by the Celtic Celebration, guitar violin and fiddle music by Loretta Thompson. The Joe Peterson Orchestra, with their famous big band sound, will round out the morning with JPO’s Andrews sisters and special guest Emcee David Hison. Easy listening, standards and blues fans will enjoy “music you remember” presented by The Mindings. Schmitt Music also will be on hand to provide a musical entertainment extravaganza.

Sports fans will have their share of entertainment fun with special appearances by players from the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies Memorabilia and the Colorado Rapids Mascot.

Attendees can save their memories of the day by stepping into the Photo Booth at the Expo, spon- sored by Colorado Access. Prize drawings will be held throughout the day and everyone is welcome to sign up to win a cruise or play bingo.

As a gift to loyal Salute to Seniors followers, admission is free. Free parking will be provided at the Pepsi Center with a free shuttle to the front door of the Colorado Convention Center compliments of Sunrise Senior Living.
