Yes, to Roasted Chilies ~ No to the Pumpkin Patch

In 2013, Tigges Farm (family-owned since 1934) located at 12404 WCR 64 ½, Greeley, CO roasted Chilies and with pride & enjoyment featured a Pumpkin Patch. Tigges Farm is well known as “the place to get the best roasted green chile” and for inviting families to come and pick out a favorite pumpkin from their acres of pumpkins; always a fun experience…

Unfortunately, by the third week of March 2020, COVID-19 was very serious and a hard decision about what crops to plant had to be made. “Customer safety was at the ‘core’ of their decision,” replied Kathy Rickart, co-manager, “Farmers are used to profits plummeting in minutes when hail sweeps across fields or Mother Nature decides on early freezes. But neither, affects the health and wellbeing of customers,” continued Rickart.

The good news is Tigges Farm will have Roasted Green Chilies. They are open days ONLY ThursFri-Sat-Sun, from 10 am to 6 pm. “At-risk persons” hour is 10am11am. Face masks and social distancing – Required! The farm is closed, Mon-Tue-Wed, and freezing cold days.

A warm & friendly welcome awaits you. (l-r) Ken Tigges, Curtis & Kathy Rickart

So, with integrity, keeping the safety of their customers in mind, and just doing what is right, the co-managers of Tigges Farm agreed on a very tough decision. The BAD NEWS is there would be NO pumpkin patch in October of 2020. “It was ‘a hard call’ to make as we know how much our community loves the pumpkin patch,” states Ken Tigges, owner of Tigges Farm. “When crowds show up on October weekends, the parking lot is packed, wagon lines to weigh pumpkins are long, and it’s shoulder to shoulder inside the stand, it is not a good thought to think COVID-19 could be lurking,” lamented Gale Loeffler, co-manager. “It is our year to throw support to grocery stores for pumpkin picking. They have been on the frontline since the beginning,” stated Kathy Rickart.
