Senior citizens are struggling with isolation, loneliness, and lack of mobility on a daily basis—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barb Lotze, Director of Business Development at Visiting Angels, and Bill Nagel co-founded Cycling Without Age–Littleton (CWA) in 2019. CWA uses trishaws—imagine a bicycle in the back, the carriage in front—to provide joy, mobility, and connection for seniors in our area. Trishaws allow seniors to spend time outdoors, feeling the wind in their hair and sunshine on their skin while bonding with co-passengers and pilots.
“My trishaw ride was so peaceful and relaxing. I felt so free.” –Ruby
Many of our repeat passengers say that their weekly trishaw ride is the only thing they have to look forward to. Fortunately, with safeguards such as windshields, sterilization, and mask-wearing in place, this is one of the few safe ways seniors can stay active and healthy during the pandemic.
We invite you to come to ride with us as a passenger or volunteer. If you’re interested in a ride, call Monica at 720-431-3522. If you’d like to become a volunteer pilot, call Barb Lotze at 720-231-6248.
Also, we are currently raising money for a second trishaw so we can bring even more smiles to senior’s faces. We would appreciate anything you can chip in!
