Ageism/DEI Facilitator Training Opportunity

Are you interested in facilitating conversations about ageism? Deepening your knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion? Changing the Narrative has partnered with Building Bridges to create a customized facilitation training that will equip you to facilitate conversations in your organization and communities.

Ageism is discrimination and prejudice against people based on their age. FrameWorks Institute research found that most people don’t even think about ageism or know what it is. Researchers also learned that explaining implicit bias—attitudes or stereotypes that we may hold and not be aware of— helps people better understand the problem of ageism and reduces ageism.

Join us for an initial two-hour virtual session that will clearly define diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and how it relates to systems of oppression within the U.S., including ageism.

Building Bridges facilitators will also provide a mini toolkit of facilitation skills that will allow participants to learn what it takes to facilitate dialogues of all types, especially as they relate to Changing the Narrative’s mission of increasing understanding about ageism and ending ageism together.

Participants who complete the first session will be invited to join facilitation training that will prepare you to be volunteer Change AGEnts, so you can lead conversations in your organization, groups you belong to, and your communities. In return, we are asking you to commit to facilitating three or more online conversations within 12 months after training.

Introduction Session: Monday, September 14th from 1 pm-3 pm MT (2 hours)

Facilitation Training – (attendance required for both days): Tuesday, September 29th from 1 pm-5 pm MT (4 hours) and Wednesday, September 30th from 1 pm-3 pm MT (2 hours).

All sessions will be held online through Zoom teleconferencing services. A broadband Internet connection and computer are required to attend these sessions. For questions and to apply, please contact Kris Geerken, Program Manager at krisgeerken@gmail.com.
