Driving south on CR 5 then turning left on to CR 32 East near Ptarmigan Golf Course, I spotted a gentleman off to my left involved in what appeared to be an artistic endeavor which gave rise to my curiosity. I drove further down the road, turned around and came back to find out exactly what the endeavor was.
I had the pleasure of meeting David Pyle, a Windsor resident. He, in fact, was creating an area scene on canvas.
As we chatted; I learned David for nearly 40 years has carried a paint box while traveling, looking to create images that tell stories.
His paint box has accompanied him through Europe. He mentioned always looking for a free afternoon to paint in London or Paris. His vast business travels have taken him all over North America and Asia. He went on to say; “That paint box has helped me to see the world in ways not possible otherwise.”
He is currently working on a series of watercolors across northern Colorado, looking to tell visual stories of changing landscapes and communities.
David will be showing his paintings at the 73rd Annual Gilpin County Juried Show in August and in September, he will paint as an invited artist in the Central City Plein Art festival.
So, my curiosity and the stop I made to visit with David Pyle, The Roadside Artist, was indeed quite interesting, educational, certainly informational and a very pleasant experience. I am fortunate to have made the stop! A stop you might want to make is David’s website: www.watercolorandphoto.com.
