A New Way to Connect with Old Friends and Maintaining Relationships

Jack York, Co-Founder & President, IN2L, Denver

At its heart, a community is about the people. People seek things to do together. Whether it’s a caretaker playing a game one-on-one with a resident in memory care, or a group of residents bonding over trivia questions that make them feel young again, or a widow or widower living alone in their own home, meaningful social connections are ever more important in this pandemic time of covid-19. Use the internet and all their tools to stay connected.

Jack works with senior living communities to find ways to help older adults lead a fulfilling life. He specializes in creating personalized experiences that engage and connect older adults to their loved ones and the world at large, specifically individuals with dementia.

Keeping Your Brain Healthy and Your Mind Sharp

Joseph Brady, M.S.T.C.M.,

Longer Institute, Denver

Not feeling so good! Call your doctor. Get a tele-health visit. Expect him to give you a pill. But wait, recent studies have shown that reducing stress can help you to keep your mind sharp. For many of us, there is no stress like the stress we have recently experienced with COVID-19. Common stress management techniques may serve to improve mental functions like memory and cognitive function and maybe even help prevent cognitive decline as we get older. Keep your mind active through all the stresses and distractions that come with surviving the age of “Covid-19.”

Are Smart Homes the Answer to Continuing to Live in Your Own Home?

Most homes are dumb! They require people to turn on the lights, to clean the floors, and to stock the cupboards with food. No longer a thing of the future. Smart homes are here! They can be built new or remodeled to incorporate the principles of universal design, aging-in-place, multi-generational living, wellness, and accessibility. Robots can be programmed to complete the mundane tasks of everyday living. Smart phones can give you alerts, accept commands, and let others know that you are safe or need help. Delivery services bring items to your front door. Family and friends in the next room or hundreds of miles away can help by turning off the lights, instructing the vacuum to clean up the mess on the living room floor, or sending an order for food to the grocery store. Learn more about living in your home longer with the help of 21st century technology.
